Holiday Tech Support Scams Targeting Seniors: What Fountain Hills Families Should Know
Scottsdale, United States - October 20, 2026 / Eazy Tech Services /
Eazy Tech Services, a computer repair and tech support company based in Fountain Hills, is alerting seniors and their families to the growing threat of tech support scams as the holiday season approaches. The company offers in-home computer repair, virus removal, and tech assistance for seniors across Fountain Hills, North Scottsdale, Rio Verde, and East Mesa.
According to the FBI's 2025 Internet Crime Report, released in April, Americans age 60 and older reported $7.75 billion in losses to online fraud - a 59% increase over the previous year. Tech support scams ranked as the second-costliest category for older victims, with more than $1 billion in reported losses.
Most tech support scams begin in one of three ways: a pop-up message claims the computer is infected with a virus, a caller poses as a Microsoft support representative, or a fraudulent support phone number appears within search results. In each case, the scammer typically requests remote access to the computer, which can grant them control of the machine and access to online banking accounts.
"The pop-up is built to make you panic, and the phone number on it goes straight to the scammer," said Trevor W., owner of Eazy Tech Services and a Fountain Hills resident of more than 25 years. "Microsoft doesn't call people about viruses, and a real warning will never ask you to call a number. If your screen is demanding a phone call, close the browser, turn the computer off and call someone you already trust."
Eazy Tech Services advises against giving remote access to anyone who initiates contact without being asked. Payments for computer support should never be made with gift cards, wire transfers, or cryptocurrency. Support phone numbers should be obtained directly from a company's official website rather than from a pop-up message or a search advertisement. Anyone who has already allowed an unknown party access to their computer is advised to disconnect from the internet, contact their bank, change passwords from a separate device, and file a report with the FBI's Internet Crime Complaint Center. The company also cautions that calls offering to recover money already lost are frequently a second scam - the FBI reported that older victims lost $540 million to these recovery schemes in 2025.
Eazy Tech Services provides in-home virus removal for computers affected by scams, covering the removal of remote access software and malware as well as the securing of email accounts. The company also offers tech help for seniors through one-on-one sessions focused on identifying fake virus warnings. Family members are able to schedule a visit on behalf of a parent.
Residents who encounter a suspicious pop-up or receive a questionable call can contact Eazy Tech Services by phone or text at 602-935-1990 to verify whether it is legitimate. The company operates from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., seven days a week, and provides free estimates.
