New data shows 72% of teams plan to increase AI investments. Only 17% have fully integrated AI into their workflows.
San Francisco, CA, April 25, 2025 — AirOps, the platform powering AI-first content operations, today released its 2025 State of Content Teams report. The research, based on responses from 144 content and SEO leaders, reveals how AI is rapidly shifting the structure, strategy, and skill sets of modern content teams. It also highlights the widening gap between early adopters and teams still stuck in traditional workflows.
While 72% of teams say they plan to increase investment in AI tools, training, or roles over the next year, only 17% have fully integrated AI into their workflows. Nearly one-third remain in pilot or experimental stages.
“Giving your team access to AI doesn’t automatically change how they work,” said Alex Halliday, CEO of AirOps. “Real transformation happens when teams redesign their content workflows to mine value from all of their resources. Most organizations haven’t built the playbooks or feedback loops to make AI sustainable. The highest-performing teams are rethinking their team structure and codifying their playbooks to create winning content. That’s the combination. AI isn’t the strategy. It’s the engine your strategy runs on.”
Additional findings from the report include:
- Quality is still the biggest hurdle. 82% of teams say maintaining quality is their top challenge with AI adoption.
- AI is changing team structure. 48% of companies are hiring for AI-specific roles like content engineer and prompt strategist.
- Legacy processes are slowing teams down. Research, outlining, and approvals remain major bottlenecks, even with AI in the mix.
- The metrics are broken. Teams report that traditional KPIs like keyword rankings and click-through rates no longer capture performance in an AI-first world.
The report identifies four stages of AI maturity, from experimentation to full integration, and provides a roadmap for how teams can scale usage without sacrificing quality or brand integrity.
